Eagle, Globe and Anchor - WAS: NAM & GWOTEM

Postby Guest on Wed Jun 01, 2005 4:28 pm

I didn't see a post anywhere, but if possible, can you add the ability to annotate the number of NAM's you have.

Also, can you afford us the ability to insert the EGA on the GWOTEM.

Thank you...

No problem about the "guest" post...

HSM, fixed. NAM, I think fixed.

Not sure what you mean about the EGA on the GWOTEM... are the Marines wearing an eagle, globe, anchor accouterment on the ribbon?

John,

As I understand it an Eagle, Globe and Anchor (EGA) device is authorized for wear on the various service medals by Navy personnel. Don't have the NAVINST handy but, if I recall, it's meant to recognize Corpsmen who serve with Marine units in combat.

Ironically, the EGA, symbol of the Corps, is not authorized for Marines.

The 1650.1G from 2002 can be found here:

http://ultimaterack.ajandj.com/regs/1650_1g.pdf

A search of it says nothing about "EGA". Eagle, globe or anchor....

The device, officially named the FMF Combat Operations insignia, a miniature Marine Corps emblem in bronze, is described at Para 122-3-a (about page 1-11 or so).

From the reg:

a. Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Combat Operation
Insignia is a miniature bronze Marine Corps emblem and is
authorized for Navy personnel who are assigned or attached
to FMF units in active combat with an armed enemy beginning
with World War II. The Insignia will be worn centered on
the suspension ribbon and ribbon bar
of World War II area
campaign medals, Korean Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary
Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia
Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal and, upon approval of
CMC, on future medals so designated. This authorization
applies to Navy personnel attached to and operating with
FMF units, and to Navy personnel attached to Navy units
operating with FMF units and under FMF operational control.
This is a restrictive device; attachment to operations with
a Marine unit is not sufficient to establish eligibility
for this insignia. The Marine unit must have been engaged
in actual combat action during the period of the
individual's service with the unit. Questions regarding
eligibility for the FMF Insignia are addressed via the
Marine Corps chain of command; CMC (MMMA) is the final
authority for eligibility.

What exactly does centered friggin' mean??? If you have an arrowhead, an FMF and a couple campaign stars... what the heck happens???

Meh. Perhaps our friends in the Navy or Marines can give me a hand here?

OK, I now have a working version of the FMF (Fleet Marine Force) appurtenance. I have added it to the ribbons above but I have no idea if it works as it is supposed to.

I need to know placement for the myriad possible combinations.

The reg says it is "centered"...

If that's the case what happens when the FMF is worn with:

1. an arrowhead
2. a star
3. an arrowhead and a star
4. two or more stars
5. an arrowhead and two or more stars

Anyone out there know what the proper wear is?

dont quote me but from what I have seen is that the arrow head take presedence. So arrow FMF Star, for 2 stars, the stars would be on the outside. I dont believe that marines recieve and arrow head I think that is an Army thing. I do know somebody that has a FMF I will ask him to see if he can give me insight.

I believe it is treated just like the bronze letter "V" as it has the same regulation. There will only be the 3/16 campaign stars added and they will be added to either side.

IE:

V = EGA only
*V = EGA with one bronze star
*V* = EGA with two bronze stars
**V* = EGA with three bronze stars

THe bronze stars will be placed (centered is a better word) between the EGA and edge of the ribbon.

The Arrowhead device is Army and Air Force only.
