David Dove's Rack and Hello

Postby davedove on Mon May 01, 2006 8:57 am

Hi,

This is my first post, so hello to everyone. I think it would be nice if everyone could list the awards when displaying your rack. I can figure out most of the Army decorations since I was in the Army, but I often don't know those from other services, or even worse state decorations.

My rack is in my signature.

The badge it the Ground Team badge for being qualified in the Ground Team specialty.

My ribbons are:

Army Commendation Medal
Army Good Conduct Medal
National Defense Service Medal
Army Service Ribbon
Civil Air Patrol Leadership Award w/ Bronze Star (for earning a Senior rating in a specialty)
Civil Air Patrol Membership Award (for completing initial training)
Civil Air Patrol Brigadier General Charles E. Yeager Award (for successful completion of the Aerospace Education Program for Senior Members - AEPSM).
Civil Air Patrol Search and Rescue "Find" Ribbon

I have included the Cold War ribbon because there is currently language in the House Defense Authorization Bill to award such a medal. I firmly believe that the medal will eventually be approved.

Of course, when it is approved, the precedence will probably put it before the ASR, but I will keep it at the end until it is official.

Hi Davedove, it would be nice if they would approve this award, but I am not holding my breath as they have been talking about it for some time, and they keep coming back to the point that they awarded the National Defense Medal along with other campain/service medals during the cold war years.. I will keep my fingers crossed

I doubt they'll ever pass that legislation... it's been tried for years and has never gotten through. I suspect the only way you'll ever be able to wear that medal is if you join the Louisiana Guard (they've adopted it as a state award).

I'm just being optimistic. The legislation is in the same state it was last year, with the language in the House version of the NDAA but not in the Senate's and now they have to debate it. It is getting some bipartisan support, so who knows.

In the meantime, while I certainly can't wear it officially, I will include it unofficially to show my support.

I removed the Cold War ribbon, because I decided to only include official awards, although I am still hoping for it to be made official. However, I am now qualified to wear some Civil Air Patrol ribbons so I have included them.

It's the Air Force's auxilliary arm. They mostly do search and rescue I think. During WWII they did anti-submarine patrols.

The CAP is a completely volunteer (no pay), auxiliary arm of the Air Force. Besides air and ground search, it is also involved with disaster relief, counter-drug patrols, and have just accepted a new Homeland Security mission for patrolling. CAP did a lot of the air surveillance and relief work after hurricane Katrina, and CAP flights were the first to fly over ground zero after 9-11.

Anyone interested should check out http://www.cap.gov

Most of CAP's ribbons are for training and activities, but there are some decorations for valorous and notable acts.
