How to get Navy Awrd

Postby PA-SGT on Wed Mar 15, 2006 4:23 pm

I have a person in my unit that was in the Navy years ago, he served for a little over 3 years. He says that he should have received the Good Conduct Medal. Does anyone know what channels he needs to go through to find out if he can still get it? This was back during the Vietnam time frame. Any help is appreciated

If he needs his DD214, he can get it through NARA

My uncle just went through this process, he is also a Vietnam vet. After he has his documents he'll need to fill out a DD149 to correct his records.

RE DD214

Postby PA-SGT on Wed Mar 15, 2006 5:50 pm

Unfortunately it is not on his 214, the dates reflect that he did 3 yrs 2 months then got out. I am guessing they never processed the award for him. Is there a way to still apply for it?

Thanks..

I will pass the info you have already provided

The DD214 would simply show his amount of time... the DD149 is what he uses to justify his deservedness...

Apologies, but I don't think he rates the Navy Good Conduct Medal. I believe at that time (you said he was VietNam era), the requirements for the GCM were 4 years of undetected crime. It was changed to 3 years in '95 or '96.
