Non-U.S. Issued awards and medals...

Postby John Asendorf on Mon Jan 10, 2005 1:02 pm

OK, what does everyone think? Should NATO, UN, and other country issued awards have their own category? I've started setting it up that way... but I'm wondering if I'm starting to make it waaaaaay too confusing?

What's everyone's thoughts?

There are a couple of ways to go -

A section for foreign awards, i.e ribbons not awarded by the US gov't or its agencies but authorized for wear.

Or

Add the set of foreign awards at the end of the "All Services" section. Everyone who's served in the Korean War, RVN, Haiti, Kosovo, Bosnia or Desert Storm, and probably a number of GWOT vets in the future, may have a foreign award or two, so it makes eminent sense to include them in this section.

I'd recommend the latter.

Just an idea....

I don't think it matters, but it might be easier to find if you put the foriegn stuff in a seperate category or lump them all together at the end of the "all services" section.

I was looking at a book I have on UN medals... there's like 30-some different UN ribbons a troop could wear, not to mention the 2 (or is it 3 now with Afghanistan?) NATO medal ribbons, the stuff from Vietnam, Saudi, Kuwait, etc... That's a lot of stuff and kind of makes me think it should be in its own category.
