Adding to the wiki

There used to be a wiki. It was mercilessly spammed. There is no longer a wiki. I can't thank PA-SGT for trying to make it a thing of beauty for everyone... then some jackasses come along and destroy it. My apologies to PA-SGT for me not being able to keep up with all the spamming.

John, are you looking for someone to cut and paste the award descrptions on the site, the link works well, could you do a second link to the information that is already on Wiki? Just curious

Thanks....

You can see what I did (a single medal!) by going to the "All Pages" link under "Special Pages" on the left hand menu (down a ways).

http://ultimaterack.ajandj.com/wiki/ind ... l:Allpages

You can see from those couple of pages the way I was headed with it...

Firstly I need to fix the image upload for the wiki... it doesn't seem to want to work properly. Partly I think because my provider runs PHP in safe mode... meh...

To answer your question... yes, that's what I'm looking for. Eventually I'd like the wiki to serve medal enthusiasts from all over the world and of all types including organizations such as Civil Air Patrol, JROTC, ROTC, firefighters, cops, etc.

John, do you have that format as a template? I can try to start working on the Air Force Medals as least as far as the documentation part goes. If you have any special instructions just let me know.

Thanks..

I **just** fixed the file upload function. You may need to delete you cached files to see the change if you've been looking at the wiki quite a bit already. (In Internet Explorer, that's Tools->Internet Options->General Tab-> Delete Files...)

Then refresh any page and you should see "upload file" in the left hand menu now.

The main page now has a link to "Military Medals of the U.S. Military" which you can click through to see the different branches... on those branch pages you can put the the link to each medal page you create.

Make sense?

Thanks John, can I use the existing pictures from Wicki to link to your page?

Thanks...

Don't steal their bandwidth please. If the pictures were taken from a government site, download them and then upload them to this site. If they weren't, you'll need to go and find government photos or renderings for this site. Sorry, I'm a bit of a copyright stickler...

John, not a problem, I was not sure what the rules were within the WIKI site. Since on all of their graphics they are posting that they are public domain I am guessing it is ok to use them. I just thought it would be easier to link to it, I can download and uplink them to the site no problem, actually for me that may be easier

I am hoping that I can do 1 or 2 of the AF awards a day during my lunch break, and then tweak them as needed.

Feel free to provide guidance any time I run astray

This is your baby, I want to play by the rules

Thanks...

It may be my baby, but it takes a village to raise a wiki! ;)

Postby PA-SGT on Sat Dec 31, 2005 11:38 am

John, I am still having issues uploading pictures, it does not like the format of the file. I am downloading the image converting it to a .JPG and then trying to upload it but it does not like it. Any help appreciated

Thanks....

John

Not sure... I just posted a couple pictures and deleted them under my regular user account on the wiki and seem to be having no problems.

Could you please email me the jpeg you're trying to upload? Another step might be to clear your cache...

uploading

Postby PA-SGT on Sat Dec 31, 2005 12:51 pm

John, I am uploading images now, but as you can see I am still having issues. How do you get the images to imbed on the page? Also how di I delete the images I do not want from the uploaded file? Once I get that part figured out I should be good to go. Also what is better .JPG or PNG

Thanks...

There should be instructions on the upload page itself.

Also how do I delete the images I do not want from the uploaded file?

I'd have to make you an admin of some sort... which I'll do if you want.

Also what is better .JPG or PNG

For photographs, JPEG... for graphics, PNG or GIF

If I can delete my mistakes, so as not to eat up storage that would be great to be an admin. I will try and see if I can figure out the image thing, I thought I was following the instructions. It is allowing me to upload but when you display the screen all you get is the prompt to upload again..

Thanks...
